After the intense joy of motherhood in the adventure of your pregnancy, a new adventure begins: that of the postpartum period. This period, often idealized, can also be synonymous with physical and emotional challenges. Between fatigue, hormonal changes, and learning your new role as a mom, the essential thing is to take care of yourself.
Aware that your well-being is inseparable from that of your baby, You & Milk supports you in this postpartum stage. For this, here are some tips we offer you on how to approach and get through this period gently.
Recognize and accept postpartum changes 🤰
The postpartum period is one of profound transformations, as your body recovers from pregnancy and childbirth. Hormones fluctuate, causing mood swings, increased sensitivity, and sometimes even postpartum depression. 😔 Fatigue also sets in, due to interrupted nights, frequent feedings, and new responsibilities.
In this regard, you must accept these changes as a natural stage of motherhood. Your body has accomplished a miracle, so it needs time to recover. Do not pressure yourself to get back to your life before immediately. Every woman is different, and the recovery pace varies from one person to another. Be kind to yourself and allow yourself to feel all the emotions you experience. 💕
Prioritize rest and sleep 😴
If you don’t know, sleep should be your number one ally during postpartum. Try to sleep when the baby sleeps, even if only short naps. Do not hesitate to rely on your partner, family, or friends so they can take care of the baby while you rest.
But don’t forget! You must create a sleep-friendly environment in your bedroom: pleasant temperature, darkness, quiet. Avoid screens before going to bed, as they can also disrupt your sleep.
Nutrition and hydration: the basics of well-being 🍏💧
A balanced diet and good hydration play a very important role in your physical and emotional recovery. Favor nutrient-rich foods, such as fruits 🍌, vegetables 🥦, lean proteins 🍗, and whole grains.
You should also avoid processed foods, rich in sugar and saturated fats, which can worsen fatigue and mood swings. Drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially if you are breastfeeding. If your doctor recommends dietary supplements 💊, you can take them while following the prescriptions.
Take time for yourself and get support
Little reminder: you are a woman before being a mama. For this, allow yourself moments of pleasure and relaxation, even short ones. Take a hot bath, read a book 📚, listen to music 🎶, go for a walk. You can entrust the baby to a loved one or a babysitter occasionally to refocus on yourself.
We also recommend participating in mom breakfasts organized by many kid-friendly places near you, to share your experiences and exchange advice, and simply meet young mothers who are going through the same things as you at the same time. If you feel depressed or anxious, do not hesitate to consult a health professional.
Breastfeed with serenity: comfort above all 🍼
Breastfeeding is a special moment between you and your baby 💞, but it can also be a source of discomfort if you are not well positioned or poorly equipped. Choosing a comfortable position, using a nursing pillow to relieve your back and arms, and wearing appropriate clothing are all keys to fully experiencing this moment.
That is why, at You & Milk, we offer you a selection of nursing clothes. You will find soft nursing bras that provide good support. Our T-shirts and nursing dresses in organic cotton are also available, with discreet openings. We have done everything to allow you to breastfeed easily, wherever you are, while feeling beautiful and confident.
